Gernot Koneffke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gernot Koneffke (born August 28, 1927 in Lauenburg , district of Lauenburg i. Pom. , † March 17, 2008 ) was a German philosopher, educator , teacher and educationalist . With Heinz-Joachim Heydorn and Hans-Jochen Gamm, he is one of the main representatives of what is known as critical educational theory and is a co-founder of materialistic education . With Gamm, who brought Gernot Koneffke to the TU Darmstadt as a full professor , he was - in addition to the close cooperation - also a lifelong friendship.

Life

Koneffke's life was shaped by the experiences of fascism and the sufferings of the Second World War , in which he had to take part as a soldier. He made his Abitur in the special military training course in Hanover. Koneffke later studied in Kiel, where he worked as a primary school teacher for seven years and met Heinz-Joachim Heydorn. In 1957 the son Ulrich Koneffke was born, the brother Jan Koneffke followed in 1960. After further studies in education, philosophy and art history, Koneffke received his doctorate in 1962 in Heidelberg. He taught at the University of Education in Frankfurt am Main from 1962 to 1969. In that year he received a professorship at the “ Kant University ” in Braunschweig, but in 1972 he was appointed professor for general education at the TU Darmstadt (formerly the Technical University of Darmstadt ) where he taught for a long time beyond his obligation.

In his novel Ein Sonntagskind Jan Koneffke processed his father's life in literary terms. Gernot Koneffke's relationships with Heinz-Joachim Heydorn and his wife Irmgard Heydorn , who, as Jochen and Nelli Moosbach, promote Konrad Kannmacher's (= Gernot Koneffke) scientific career, take up a lot of space in the book .

Critical educational theory

During his life he worked with the pedagogue Heinz-Joachim Heydorn. After his death he worked on the critical theory of education he had developed . The focus of his work was the historical analysis of the contradicting reproductive conditions in bourgeois society and, as a result, a materialistic reflection on the foundation of pedagogy. Part of his work was influenced by Theodor W. Adorno's main work ( Negative Dialectic ). In March 2008, Koneffke died at the age of 80.

Courage to criticize

The conversation between Gernot Koneffke and Hans-Jochen Gamm under the title Courage to Criticism also served posthumously as introductory material for first-year students in education.
