Hans-Otto Schembs

Hans-Otto Schembs (* 1942 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German is a chronicler and city historian . He wrote and published numerous books and writings on the history of Frankfurt am Main .

Life

Schembs graduated from the Frankfurt Musterschule and then studied German and history at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . As a freelance author , he dealt intensively with the history of the Jews in Frankfurt. His activities also included the organization of readings and exhibitions.

Schembs has been a member since 1980 and was the managing director of the Friends of Frankfurt eV , an association that made outstanding contributions to the history of the city and the maintenance of the Frankfurt dialect . He was also a board member of the Society for Frankfurt History . He is a member of other historical and cultural-historical institutions in his hometown.

Awards

  • In November 2008 Otto Schembs received the Friedrich Stoltze Prize from the Friends of Frankfurt. Frankfurt's head of cultural affairs , Felix Semmelroth , said, among other things , in the laudation : " Nobody knows the history of the city like they do and nobody knows so much about the necessity of history ... "
