Salentin, who turned to the trumpet at the age of eleven, studied music at the Cologne University of Music from 1981 to 1986 . His teachers were u. a. Jon Eardley , Manfred Schoof , Axel Jungbluth , Jiggs Whigham and Francis Coppieters . He played u. a. with James Carter , Chick Corea , Bob Mintzer , John Scofield , Andrea Centazzo , Miroslav Vitouš and Charlie Mariano . He also worked in productions by Phillip Boa , Rainhard Fendrich and Purple Schulz and appeared in the house band of the Harald Schmidt Show for almost 20 years . Bill Dobbins described him as "one of the best trumpeters on the European scene today". After the Jazz Podium (2008) he “developed into an important trumpeter on the European jazz scene”. The American internet magazine All about Jazz compared his playing style with Miles Davis , Nils Petter Molvær and Markus Stockhausen .

In 2003 he was appointed professor at the University of Music in Würzburg . In addition to his university teaching and concert activities, he works as a composer. He also composed film music and for string quartets. He has now released 20 of his own albums. On his website is u. a. an extensive "improvisation school" (200 pages) available for free download. As a jazz musician, he is a true real-time composer and melody inventor. This made it easier for him to realize his ideas both as a composer (meanwhile 20 CDs under his name, film music, music for string quartets) and as a producer (lounge music). The musical spectrum of his productions is broad. It moves between mainstream, free improvisation and wave music. His trumpet school received the German Music Editions Prize (AMA-Verlag) and on Salentin's homepage you can find an improvisation school for free download. Salentin has been running the label and publisher Dewey Records since 2010 . Many of his compositions are also arranged for big band. As a Yamaha Rec Artist (2003 to 2010) he gave workshops all over Europe. Salentin Adams has been an artist since July 2010 and only plays Adams instruments.
