Hans-Peter von Peschke (born August 12, 1951 in Munich ) is a German-Swiss journalist and publicist .

Life

After graduating from high school and doing alternative civilian service, he studied history , sociology , political science and education at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . In 1976 he obtained an MA in education with a thesis on the economics of education , and in 1980 the Dr. Phil in history. In his dissertation he presented the relationship between Siemens and the German state until 1914. In addition to his studies, he worked as a consultant for various organizations, especially for the European Academy of Bavaria. At the same time he began to write history with a kick for the magazine .

From 1978 to 1980 he completed an apprenticeship at the German School of Journalism in Munich with internships at the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Bayerischer Rundfunk . After four years at Bayerischer Rundfunk, he went to Bern , where he married in 1983 and initially worked as a freelance journalist until he was permanently employed as an editor at Radio DRS from 1986 onwards . In 1988 he suffered a serious heart attack . Among other things, von Peschke dealt with the development and consequences of digitization. To this end, he developed the two-hour monthly program “Computermagazin” in the early 1990s. As a member and later head of the "Radio Innovation Group" he was involved in the further development of Radio DRS. Most recently he was chief of staff in the program management of DRS 1 .

Most of the work for German broadcasters, especially BR and WDR , was about his host and later second home country, Switzerland. It all began with the “Land where the Millions Bloom”, which received the Swiss Journalism Award in 1988. He wrote and produced many articles on the history of the Confederation. Many of these programs had the character of a radio play.

Hans-Peter von Peschke wrote more than 300 articles for the magazine “ Geschichte ” and worked on the “ WAS IST WAS ” series, focusing on the Middle Ages . Historical recipes were a particular focus. Together with his friend Werner Feldmann, three cookbooks with dishes from history were created.

In 2006, von Peschke suffered a stroke , which finally led to his early retirement in 2010. In 2011 he acquired Swiss citizenship and became a dual citizen . In the last few years he has authored a number of books.

In 2014 he was able to realize his favorite project, a story of alternative history, framed by numerous “what if” stories. In his last book so far, which was published in the second half of 2016, he devoted himself to an old love, science fiction.

Awards

Some features - especially for the DRS transmission container (transmission format) e.g. B. - received prizes. The audio image “D'Hauptscha mir choi drüber schlägle” on the subject of violence in school, created with the participation of a school class, received the Bern Radio Foundation's prize, as did his last major feature “Stroke - the long way back”, where he shared his experiences and that of his fellow patients.

In 1988 he received the Swiss Journalism Prize for “Land where the millions bloom”.
