After finishing school, Huppertz studied classical guitar with Tadashi Sasaki (* 1943 in Tokyo ) at the Aachen department of the Cologne University of Music and Dance and completed this course with his concert exam. He also took master classes with Thomas Müller-Pering , Hubert Käppel , Abel Carlevaro and Dieter Kreidler, among others . As part of a study trip to Japan in 1990, he performed at the international guitar competitions in Okayama and Tokyo, where he took 1st and 2nd place respectively. He then performed worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician.

Finally, Huppertz received a teaching position for classical guitar at his previous training facility, the Aachen University of Music, where he has meanwhile also been appointed professor.
