Hans Becher

Hans Becher (born March 9, 1906 in Schwarzenberg / Erzgebirge ; † February 19, 2004 ) was the long-time director of the museum “Erzgebirgisches Eisen und Zinn” at Schwarzenberg Castle in the Erzgebirge . As such, he was significantly involved in the collection of the exhibits and the expansion of the library with numerous historical books and prints on the history of the town of Schwarzenberg and the surrounding area.

After attending the Schwarzenberg secondary school, he learned the trade of toolmaker in the Erzgebirge Cutting Tool and Machine Factory (ESEM). Afterwards he was trained as a technician and engineer in the Saxon State Schools in Chemnitz . After working for the company Nier in Beierfeld and at DKW in Zschopau , from 1939 until his retirement, Becher worked as an engineer in his training company, which later became VEB Formenbau Schwarzenberg.

In 1947, Becher co-founded the Museum of the City of Schwarzenberg and published numerous monographs and articles in regional periodicals a. a. on the history of Schwarzenberg Castle and the economic history of the region. To name are u. a. his contribution about the nail smiths ' revolt in the Ore Mountains , in which two nail factories in Elterlein and Mittweida were destroyed and looted as part of the machine storm movement in 1848 , as well as the tourist hiking atlas Schwarzenberg, Johanngeorgenstadt, Auersberg, Rittersgrün . In 1992 he was made an honorary member of the Horse Gopel Association in Johanngeorgenstadt , which he had helped to reconstruct.

Becher spent his twilight years in the retirement home Gut Förstel in Langenberg , died in 2004 at the age of 97 and was buried in the cemetery in Wildenau.
