Hans Burkhardt (local history researcher)

Hans Burkhardt (born June 17, 1928 in Annaberg ; † December 21, 2020 ) was a German local researcher who mainly dealt with the history of the town of Annaberg-Buchholz .

Life

Burkhardt was born in 1928 as the son of a businessman and a housewife in the Erzgebirge mountain town of Annaberg. After attending elementary school, he learned the profession of industrial clerk at the Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft and the business school in Annaberg from 1942 to 1944 . He was then committed to the Reich Labor Service from November 1944 to January 1945 and then employed by the Wehrmacht in a tank destroyer company in Bohemia until the end of World War II . He returned home in mid-May 1945 and took up his first positions in the Annaberg city administration, in the district health office of the Annaberg district and as a warehouse clerk in oneHO restaurant open. This was followed by a change to the state- owned Flitterfabrik and Plasticart companies in Annaberg-Buchholz. Between 1960 and 1965 he studied finance and then worked from 1969 until his retirement in 1990 as head of business administration at VEB Elektro Installation Annaberg (EIA).

From the 1960s Burkhardt worked a. a. due to the friendship with his former teacher Willy Roch , as a local researcher. The focus of his research was on his hometown Annaberg-Buchholz, the arithmetic master Adam Ries , but also other regional personalities such as Jacob Haylmann , the builder of St. Anne's Church or the plague pastor Wolfgang Uhle . He has authored eight books, 26 brochures and 38 essays in scientific journals (as of 2016). There are also around 70 multi-part newspaper articles. In recognition of his local history work, the Adam Ries Association awarded him the Adam Ries Special Prize on October 10, 2015 .
