Life

He first went to the Electoral Saxon service and became a private corporal on July 20, 1735 . After the death of Emperor Karl VI. he was under Count Rutowsky during the conquest of Prague. He showed a lot of courage and was promoted to ensign. In 1742 he was with the Saxon Army in Bohemia. After the Peace of Wroclaw he became Second Lieutenant and in 1744 Premier Lieutenant. On June 5, 1745 he fought in the battle of Hohenfriedberg and on December 15 in Kesselsdorf . It was not until November 21, 1754 that he was promoted to captain. When the Seven Years War broke out on October 16, 1756, he was trapped with the Saxon army near Pirna . After the surrender, he accepted the Prussian offer and switched to the Prussian army. Therefore, on November 13, he became major in regiment S56 (Loen). The regiment was the former Saxon regiment Friedrich August .

In November 1759 the king appointed him commander of infantry regiment No. 11 (Rebentisch). It had previously been captured in the battle of Maxen and was rebuilt in Breslau . When the Austrians enclosed the fortress on July 30, 1760 and defended it by Major General Tauentzien , Rothkirch was able to distinguish itself again. In 1762 he was ordered to siege Schweidnitz with regiment No. 11 (Rebentisch). After the Treaty of Hubertusburg in 1763, he was transferred as commander to Regiment No. 31 (Lestwitz). On May 25, 1765 he became lieutenant colonel and on May 19, 1766 colonel. To this end, he was appointed governor of Gattersleben on September 9, 1766. In 1767 he received the Pour le Mérite . On September 13, 1770 he was appointed Chief of Infantry Regiment No. 32 , as well as Commander of the city and fortress of Neisse. The following year, on May 24, 1771, he was appointed major general. During the War of the Bavarian Succession he was initially mobilized but later sent back to Neisse. From there he had to organize supplies for the army. On May 22, 1778 he was appointed lieutenant general. A few years later on July 20, 1784, he and his officers celebrated 50 years of service. The officers even minted a commemorative coin as a reminder. He died on September 3, 1785 in Neisse. It was noteworthy that he was never wounded in 50 years.
