Hans Fischer (painter)

Hans "fis" Fischer (born January 6, 1909 in Bern , † April 19, 1958 in Interlaken ) was a Swiss graphic artist and painter . He was best known as the author and illustrator of the children's book Pitschi .

Life

Hans Fischer attended the arts and crafts school first in Geneva (“Ecole des Beaux-Arts industriels”), then in Zurich . He worked as a painter, commercial artist, animator , cartoonist (for example for the Nebelspalter ) and also as a set designer (for the Cabaret Cornichon ). In 1945 the first exhibition of his works took place in the Bern art gallery . In 1955 he received the graphics prize at the São Paulo Biennale in Brazil . In 1953 Fischer created a mural for the bar in the waiting and transit hall at Kloten Airport and the mural “Island Fish” for the Bernese tea room “Bäreck”, which was newly designed by Hans Brechbühler .

Fischer created numerous children's books a. a. The kitten who always wanted something different. A sad story, but one that ends well .

In 1938 his son, the later writer and cabaret artist Kaspar Fischer , was born.

At the age of 49 he died in 1958 as a result of a heart attack in the Interlaken hospital.

In 1959, a commemorative exhibition for Fischer was held at the Zurich Kunsthaus. On his 100th birthday, a comprehensive exhibition of his works was shown in the Zurich gallery Pendo until the end of February 2009.
