Hans Fitzinger

Hans Fitzinger (born  April 22, 1924 in Waldenstein ; †  June 29, 2015 there ) was an Austrian soldier , local politician , teacher , musician and author .

Life

Hans Fitzinger attended the elementary school in Waldstein, in Gmund the high school and then the teacher training institute in Vienna .

From 1943 to 1945 he was a soldier and radio operator in the Wehrmacht in the 100th Jäger Division and the 183rd Volksgrenadier Division . From April 17, 1945 to January 15, 1946 he was in American, French and British captivity . Because his parents' apartment in Vienna was bombed out in February 1945, he was given temporary accommodation with his uncle Rudolf Schandl in Waldenstein 47 after he returned home.

From April 1946 he taught at the elementary school in Heidenreichstein , from September at the elementary school in Waldenstein. Here he was a teacher for 40 years, including 39 years as headmaster . From 1947 to 1957 he headed the agricultural advanced training school in Waldenstein. In 1952 he married his wife Gertrude.

From 1952 to 1996 he was choirmaster of the Waldensteiner Singers Association and then until 2005 chairman of this choir . From 1955 to 1960 and from 1965 to 1980 he was a local councilor , 10 years of which he was deputy mayor and cultural advisor for the Waldenstein community. He played a key role in the construction of a new four-class elementary school and the state kindergarten in Waldenstein. In 1967 he and his party friends founded the Waldenstein branch of the ÖAAB and was its chairman for 10 years. In 1969 he succeeded in founding the Waldenstein Beautification Association. From 1960 to 2002 he was also the head of the Waldenstein branch of the Lower Austrian Education and Home Office and from 1974 to 2004 he was responsible for the publication of the Waldensteiner Kulturbrief .

From 1933, with the exception of his studies and wartime (1938–1946), he was the singer of the Waldenstein church choir and, from 1980, its choirmaster and second organist . From 1986 to 2002 he was in charge of the Catholic education center in the Waldenstein parish . In his spare time he composed 40 songs and the march Grüaß Euch Gott in Woidnstoa . In 2010 he wrote the book In Krieg und Gefangenschaft , in which he reports on his experiences from his time in World War II . From 1999 he was head of the cultural event We sing old songs at the Wurz inn in Waldenstein.

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, the Waldenstein City Council decided to designate the Waldenstein elementary school as the Hans Fitzinger elementary school.
