Hans Forstreuter

Hans Emil Wilhelm Walter Forstreuter (born August 21, 1890 in Königsberg , † February 1, 1978 in Berlin ), was a German high school teacher , author and sports pedagogue . He developed modern athletic training gymnastics .

Family and school education

Hans Forstreuter was a son of the district court counselor Walter Forstreuter. The family came from emigrants from Salzburg . He attended the Königliche Wilhelms-Gymnasium in his hometown and obtained his university entrance qualification there in 1910 .

military service

In the same year Forstreuter joined the infantry regiment "Herzog Karl von Mecklenburg-Strelitz" No. 43 as a professional soldier , which was stationed in Königsberg. During the First World War Forstreuter was awarded the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class. After his regiment was demobilized and disbanded in 1919, Forstreuter joined a free corps of former regimental members that was deployed in the border guards of East and West Prussia . As a result of the reduction in army strength envisaged by the Versailles Treaty , Forstreuter was dismissed from active service as captain in 1920 . Teaching position

During the summer semester 1921 and the winter semester 1921/22 studied Forstreuter at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin philosophy . He then completed an apprenticeship at the State Gymnastics Institute in Berlin-Spandau . In 1922 he passed the examination to become a qualified gymnastics and sports teacher at the German University for Physical Education in Berlin.

After a first job as an auxiliary sports teacher at the 13th (municipal) Menzel secondary school in Berlin-Moabit , another one followed at the upper secondary school in Berlin-Lichterfelde . At this school he was taken on as a civil servant in 1923 . In 1933 he was appointed senior gymnastics teacher.

He entered as a teacher 's retirement.

Sports education

Forstreuter, who developed modern athletic training gymnastics, emerged primarily as the author of a text and study book , which appeared between 1927 and 1986 in 32 continuously revised editions and became a standard work . The work, which appeared in the first three editions under the title “400 gymnastic exercises and calisthenics in modern form in words and pictures.”, Was then given the more general name “Gymnastics.
