Hans Fritzsche (legal scholar)

Hans Otto Fritzsche (born January 22, 1882 in Glarus ; † September 3, 1972 in Zollikon ) was a Swiss law scholar and university professor. He was professor for civil procedure law, international private law, debt enforcement and bankruptcy law as well as for the introduction to law at the University of Zurich .

Life

Hans Fritzsche was born as the eldest son of the Glarus hospital doctor Christian Friedrich Fritzsche and Marie. Renker born. He graduated from high school in Zurich. After graduating from high school, Fritzsche first enrolled in German language and literature at the University of Munich in 1900 . In 1901 he moved to Zurich to study law and also studied several semesters at the University of Leipzig . In 1905 he wrote his dissertation at the University of Zurich with Emil Zürcher on the subject of Das Rechtsbot . a peculiarity of civil processes in eastern Switzerland . The following year he went to the universities of Bern , Montpellier , Paris and Florence for further study and language stays .

From 1908 to 1920 he worked as a clerk at the Horgen District Court . In 1910 he married Margaretha Helene Streiff from Glarus. During the First World War , he made active service at the Swiss border as a captain of a Glarner Fusilier - company . His academic career only began afterwards. In 1919 he completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich, and in 1920 he was promoted to associate professor and in 1924 to full professor . He taught at the University of Zurich for over three decades and retired in 1952. In addition, he continued to work professionally, initially from 1920 to 1933 as a substitute at the Zurich Higher Court and later as a member and long-standing President of the Court of Cassation of the Canton of Zurich (1933–1959). He was also twice dean of the law and political science faculties.
