Hans Geib

Hans "Ötte" Geib (* 1922 in Barmen ; † March 31, 1995 in Wuppertal ) was a German dialect author .

Life

In the early 1950s Geib worked with the cameraman Peter Forster and the film team around director Gero Priemel, who reported together from Wuppertal, which was destroyed in the war after the air raids . They staged the reconstruction of industry and the city and spread the message that “things are looking up again”. Five films were made at this time.

Since the end of the 1960s, Geib has been writing the weekly gloss " Hie kallt Ötte " under the pseudonym "Ötte", first in the General-Anzeiger Wuppertal , then in the Westdeutsche Zeitung . He was a constant columnist in the WZ for almost three decades and wrote about big and small things about the city. The gloss was written in Barmer Platt . Together with Kurt Schnöring, he published several books, both of whom worked in the press and information office of the Wuppertal city administration. In 1978 Geib was head of the press department and deputy head of office. Geib also organized many city tours and local festivals.

In addition to his writing activities, Geib lent his voice to the setting of video films about Wuppertal history and acted as a commentator.

In 1995 the 73-year-old passionate “Plattkaller” and humorous author, who had a fan base in Wuppertal, died. The basketball player Gordon Geib is his grandson. Geib was considered a Wuppertal original .
