Hans Geiger (economist)

Hans Geiger (born May 19, 1943 in Zurich ) is a Swiss bank manager and economist .

Geiger grew up with three siblings in Zurich - Wipkingen . He attended primary schools and the Realgymnasium in Zurich and graduated from type B in 1962 . He then studied economics at the University of Zurich and graduated in 1967 with a licentiate . From 1967 to 1970 Geiger was a research assistant , first at the commercial science seminar with Karl Käfer and later at the Institute for Swiss Banking with Ernst Kilgus . In 1969 he did his doctorate with Hans Künzi with a thesis on the economic efficiency of the use of computers.

In 1970 Geiger joined the Schweizerische Kreditanstalt , where he worked in the accounting and controlling department and finally became head of accounting. In 1977 he was appointed to the management. In 1985/1986 Geiger was responsible for the international lending business in Europe and Africa. From January 1, 1987, Geiger was a member of the general management and was responsible for the areas of foreign exchange, precious metals, types and correspondent banks. From 1990 to the end of 1996 he headed the logistics division (IT, accounting, planning, law, real estate, security) and was Chief Information Officer from 1992 .

From October 1, 1997 to May 2008, Geiger was a full professor at the Institute for Swiss Banking at the University of Zurich. At the same time he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Telekurs Holding from 1997 to 1999 . From 1998 to 2004 he was Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vontobel Holding. From 2001 to 2006 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Bächler Installations AG. From 1998 to 2008 he was a member of the board of the Zurich Chamber of Commerce .

Geiger has been married since 1972 and has one son. He lives in Weiningen and is entitled to reside in Zurich and Weiningen.

Geiger has been a member of the Swiss People's Party since 1979 . From 1978 to 1986 he presided over the poor relief of the district community Weiningen (Unterengstringen, Weiningen, Geroldswil, Oetwil). In 2007, the SVP of the Canton of Zurich presented Hans Geiger as a candidate for the Council of States , but withdrew him after a short time in favor of Ueli Maurer . Maurer ultimately failed in the election against Verena Diener .
