Hans Gersbach

Hans Gersbach (aka Johann Anton Gersbach, born October 28, 1959 in Hellikon ) is a Swiss economist . He holds the chair for macroeconomics at the ETH Zurich . Since 2015 he has been chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Ministry of Economics .

Life

Gersbach studied mathematics , actuarial mathematics and economics at the University of Basel and completed the three subjects with a diploma (1984, 1985) and licentiate (1986). After a short time as a software developer at National Insurance , he became a scientific assistant to Peter Bernholz (Basel) in 1987 . He received his doctorate in 1990 with a dissertation in the field of information economics . From 1990 to 1992 he worked as a consultant at McKinsey before returning to research. First he was assistant professor with Martin Hellwig (University of Basel, 1992), then research fellow at McKinsey Global Institute (1992/93), finally visiting scholar at the University of California (1993/94), and then again as assistant professor with Martin Hellwig (1994 / 95) to take action. In 1995 he received his habilitation in Basel . From 1995 to 2006 he was Professor of Economic Policy at Heidelberg University . Since 2006 he has been Professor of Macroeconomics at the ETH Zurich.

Gersbach is married and has three children.

Gersbach has published in major journals, including Social Choice and Welfare , Macroeconomic Dynamics and the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control .

In the economists ranking of the Handelsblatt from 2008, which has analyzed the research performance of economists in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland based on the quality of publications since 2004, it came in fourth.
