Hans Harry

Hans Härry (born November 16, 1895 in Zurich ; † January 17, 1980 in Bern ; legal domicile in Zurich) was a Swiss surveyor .

life and work

Härry was the son of the sculptor Johannes and Sophie, née Jung.

From 1915 to 1919, Härry studied surveying at the ETH Zurich and graduated as a qualified surveying engineer . From 1919 to 1920 he completed the one year practice as a geometer candidate at the land surveying office of the city of Zurich, where he was active in re-surveying and tracking.

Härry received the patent as a federal land register geometer in 1920 and then worked as an engineer for the Federal Office for Topography until 1926 . There he worked on the areas of state leveling, triangulation and photogrammetry .

In 1926, Härry came to the Federal Land Surveying Directorate as 1st Adjunct , where he was responsible for surveying supervision in the cantons of Glarus , Basel-Stadt , Geneva and in the Principality of Liechtenstein until the resignation of the surveying director Jakob Baltensperger in December 1948 .

Härry also dealt with the introduction of new surveying methods, in particular aerial photogrammetry, with which the management of the survey flight service was also connected.

On 25 January 1949 Härry was the Bundesrat elected federal survey director. Under Härry, the cadastral surveying became the basis of the new national map.

Härry received in 1953 from the University of Lausanne the honorary doctorate . He was also an honorary member of the Bern Section of the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects, an honorary member of the German Association for Surveying and an honorary member of the Austrian Association for Surveying.
