Hans Hörmann (building researcher)

Hans Hörmann (born July 5, 1894 in Munich , † November 12, 1985 in Schäftlarn ) was a German architect , building researcher and monument conservator .

After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1913 , Hans Hörmann studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich up to his diploma in 1920. After that, he joined the government building service. He also studied Classical Archeology at the University of Munich , where he worked in 1924 with the work The Roman Stage Front at Ephesus. A new attempt at reconstruction and its recognition in the context of contemporary facade architecture for Dr. phil. received his doctorate. He took part in the excavations in Didyma and Ephesus . Since 1928 he was a government building officer in Passau, where he founded the local cathedral building works. In 1934 he was at the Technical University of Munich with the work methodology of monument preservation. Ways and goals of the repair of buildings from antiquity and the Middle Ages to Dr.-Ing. PhD. From 1938 he worked as an architecture consultant at the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments , interrupted from 1939 to 1944 as an art protection officer in France and from 1945 to 1949 due to his impeachment. He retired in 1959.
