Hans Halm (musicologist)

Hans Halm (born April 5, 1898 in Munich ; † January 26, 1965 there ) was a German librarian and musicologist .

Live and act

Hans Halm comes from a family of scholars and artists. His father, Philipp Maria Halm , was director of the Bavarian National Museum from 1916 to 1931 , the etcher Peter Halm was his uncle.

After attending school and Absolutorium on Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich in 1917 Halm was the Patriotic Subsidiary of the Bavarian State Library allotted what influenced his later career choice crucial. From 1926 he worked for the Bavarian State Library in Munich. In 1930 he became a state librarian and employee of the Bamberg State Library, and in 1933 he returned to the State Library of Munich as a state librarian, where he became head of the music collection in 1938.

In 1951 he was a founding member of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centers (AIML, formerly AIBM) and from 1955 to 1964 President of the German group of AIBM . In 1957 he was a co-founder of the Society for Bavarian Music History
