Hans Heinz (theologian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann "Hans" Heinz (born April 30, 1930 in Vienna ) is a theologian of the Protestant Free Church of the Seventh-day Adventists and author of numerous books. He shaped generations of pastors and theology students and was a speaker at theological and missionary conferences .

Education and activity

Hans Heinz attended the Adventist missionary seminar in Bogenhofen from 1949 and then studied Adventist theology at the Séminaire du Salève ( Collonges , France ) until 1953 , where he was shaped by the theologian Alfred Vaucher (1887-1993). After relevant practical experience as a pastor and evangelist in the Adventist Church in Vienna, he worked as a theological teacher at the Bogenhofen Castle seminary for 21 years from 1957 , including seven years as director of this facility. During this time he also devoted himself to further studies at the universities of Vienna and Salzburg . In 1981 he received his doctorate in Theologiae Doctor (Th.D.) at the American Andrews University ( Michigan ) with a dissertation on the Roman Catholic concept of merit dealing with Luther's doctrine of justification . Contrary to the ecumenical trend, he sees in the doctrine of justification a continuing difference between Luther and contemporary Catholic teaching that separates the churches. Heinz is one of the best-known Luther specialists within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. From 1982 to 1995 he headed the Marienhöhe Theological Seminary at the Marienhöhe School Center , Darmstadt . There he also founded the yearbook Spes Christiana , which is continued today at the Friedensau University of Applied Sciences.

The combination of academic height with faithfulness to the Scriptures and the mediation of a solid Christian-Adventist identity characterized his work. The total circulation of his books reached millions.

His son Daniel is the director of the historical archive of the Seventh-day Adventists at the Friedensau Theological College .
