Johann Emil Rudolf Herrmann (born March 8, 1858 in Berlin ; † July 21, 1942 there ; alternative names: Johann Hermann, Hans Hermann ) was a German landscape and genre painter of realism , naturalism and German impressionism .

Herrmann studied at the Berlin Art Academy under Otto Knille , Karl Gussow and Christian Wilberg and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Eugen Dücker . In the latter's landscape class, he stayed from 1879 to 1882. Regular study trips took him to Holland, where he, among other things, the nature Summer School of George Hitchcock visited France and Italy. He maintained friendships and collaborations with many well-known artists of his time. He was a founding member of the group of the Association of XI (with Max Liebermann and Walter Leistikow ) and the Berlin Academy. From 1879 he regularly and a. in Berlin (Academy and Great Art Exhibition), Munich (Glaspalast), Düsseldorf, Dresden and abroad. Herrmann illustrated for the gazebo from 1886 to 1890 . In the course of his life he mainly created landscape, genre and still lifes between realism, naturalism and impressionism, mainly in numerous paintings and watercolors of Dutch street scenes and landscapes.

Hans Herrmann died in Berlin in 1942 at the age of 84. His grave is in the Zehlendorf cemetery . From 1987 to 2009, the final resting place of Hans Herrmann was dedicated to the State of Berlin as an honorary grave . An inscription plaque on the Herrmann family's hereditary burial in the cemetery of the Bethlehem parish in Berlin-Kreuzberg also commemorates him .
