Hans Hinrich Wendt

Hans Hinrich Wendt (born June 18, 1853 in Hamburg , † January 19, 1928 in Jena ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Hans Hinrich Wendt was born on June 18, 1853 in Hamburg. He was the son of the Hamburg pastor to St. Katharinen Hans Hinrich Wendt (1813–1862) and his wife Maria Friederike Emilie, born Weber (1828–1911). In 1872 Wendt began studying Protestant theology and philosophy at the University of Leipzig , which he continued in Tübingen, Marburg and Göttingen. In Marburg, Wendt met Johannes Weiß , with whom he was on good terms. At the University of Göttingen , Wendt found academic teachers in the theologian Albrecht Ritschl and the philosopher Hermann Lotze , who decisively determined his further thinking. On December 2, 1875, Wendt received his doctorate in philosophy in Göttingen. In 1877 he became a private lecturer and in 1881 an associate professor for systematics and New Testament theology in Göttingen, in 1883 a full professor at the University of Kiel , in 1885 as Daniel Schenkel's successor at the University of Heidelberg and in 1893 at the University of Jena . He developed his theological activity in the New Testament as well as in the systematic field.
