Hans Hirthammer
Johann Baptist Wolfgang Hirthammer (born January 1, 1901 in Landshut , Lower Bavaria , † August 16, 1963 in Zwiesel ) was a German writer and editor .
Life
Youth and wartime (1901–1945)
His parents were the master plumber Johann Wolfgang Hirthammer and his wife Maria (née Münsterer). Johann was his father's first child; Maria was his first wife.
Hirthammer attended grammar school in Landshut and then studied literary history , librarianship and newspaper studies at the University of Leipzig . After several years as an editor in Passau , he moved to Berlin in September 1930 , where he also worked as an employee at Ullstein Verlag and wrote short stories for the Berliner Morgenpost . From 1933 to 1941, Hirthammer was a member of Schering AG and worked in the medical-scientific department.
Literary beginnings
As a writer , he wrote his first novels under the name of Hans Hirthammer in the early 1930s: Drive into the Blue , Scandal about Dr. Vandergruen and the Blue Danube Waltz .
The post-war period (1945–1963)
After serving in the military and released from Soviet captivity , Hirthammer returned briefly to his native Landshut in early 1951. In Zwiesel he wrote several of his 50+ novels and died there in 1963.
Further occupations
As a relief artist, Hirthammer made the large relief image of the Zwieseler Winkel for the town hall in Zwiesel in 1956 , where it can still be found today. He received the contract from the tourist association. The relief includes Arber , Rachel , Falkenstein and the Zwieseler valley basin . With all its contour lines, it still serves as a guide for tourists today.
For many years he was in charge of a weather station for the German Weather Service .
