Johannes Franciscus (Hans) Hoogervorst (born April 19, 1956 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch politician ( VVD ).

Life and work

Hans Hoogervorst attended the Atheneum in Haarlem until 1974 . He then studied history at the University of Amsterdam . From 1981 to 1983 Hoogervorst studied international relations at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies , an academic institute at Johns Hopkins University , in Washington, DC and Bologna .

He is married and has a son.

Political party

Hoogervorst was a member of the Partij van de Arbeid (PvdA) from 1978 to 1982 . In 1986 he joined the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD).

MP

In 1994 he became a member of the Second Chamber of the States General for the first time . With his appointment as State Secretary, Hoogervorst left parliament. From May 23, 2002 to July 22, 2002 he was again a member of the Second Chamber before Hoogervorst held a ministerial office. From January 29, 2003 to November 30, 2006 he was the last member of the Second Chamber.

Public offices

From 1998 to 2002, Hans Hoogervorst was State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in the Kok II cabinet . He became Minister of Finance under Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende in 2002 . After the Balkenende I cabinet dissolved in 2003, Hoogervorst became Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport in the new Balkenende II cabinet . He also held the office in the transitional cabinet Balkenende III before it was dissolved in 2007 by the parliamentary elections in 2006 .

From September 2007 to 2011, Hoogervorst was chairman of the Dutch financial supervisory authority, Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM).

Since 2011 Hoogervorst has been chairman of the IASB (International Accounting Standards Board) in London.
