Hans Klaas

Hans Joachim Friedhelm Klaas (born October 25, 1927 in Gronau (Westphalia) ; † May 9, 2011 in Münster-Hiltrup ) was a German businessman and entrepreneur .

Together with Hermann Kock , he was the founder and owner of the K + K Klaas & Kock supermarket chain .

Life

Hans Klaas got to know Hermann Kock during his apprenticeship at Edeka . The two friends made their own and founded in 1950 the general partnership company Klaas & Kock. Over the years, they expanded this “wholesaler for confectionery” into the K + K supermarket chain. While Hermann Kock retired from the company at the turn of 1983/1984, Hans Klaas was still actively involved in managing the company after his 80th birthday, which at the beginning of 2011 was made up of more than 210 supermarkets and hypermarkets in Westphalia and western Lower Saxony with more than 7000 employees.

The entrepreneur received a number of awards for his work. In 1995, Hans Klaas and his sons Hans-Jürgen and Rolf were honored with the “Golden Sugar Loaf” awarded by the Lebensmittel Zeitung for their performance as one of the “most successful regional chain stores in Germany . In 1999 the Federal President awarded him the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Hans Klaas always gave his home town of Gronau energetic support. He financially supported cultural, school and sports offers as well as social and church institutions. For example, he supported the construction of the Spechtholtshook sports hall and the establishment of municipal kindergartens. He also campaigned for the preservation of the Paul-Gerhardt-Heim of the evangelical parish, the outdoor pool in Epe and for the IT equipment of the Gronau city library. Since its premiere in 1989, K + K has also been the general sponsor of the Gronau Jazz Festival . For his overall life's work and his personal commitment, the city of Gronau granted him honorary citizenship on April 1, 2000 - in keeping with the company's 50th anniversary .

Hans Klaas was married to Edith Klaas nee Greve for the second time. The couple has one son: Joachim. The sons Rolf and Hans-Jürgen come from the first marriage.

Hans Klaas died on May 9, 2011 at the age of 83 in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Münster-Hiltrup . He found his final resting place in the family grave at the Protestant cemetery in Gronau.
