Jazz Festival Gronau
The Jazzfest Gronau is a year since 1989 in Gronau hosted a music festival .
history
The idea for the festival arose in 1988 from the four Gronauers Theo Eimann (musician and former businessman), Manfred Haupt (businessman), Elmar Hoff (director of culture, school and sports) and Otto Lohle (city youth worker); it was carried out by them for the first time in April 1989. Local entrepreneurs prepared the financial background for a program that initially largely comprised traditional jazz and swing .
The venues for the first three editions of the Gronau Jazz Festival were the provisionally prepared workrooms of the former textile company " van Delden " and the Gronau city center with its pubs and squares. In 1992 the decision was made to give up the previous “jazz factory” in favor of a tent solution that served as a festival location until 2002. Since 2003, the majority of the major concerts have taken place in the newly created Bürgerhalle. The involvement of the local pub and club scene is still part of the program.
The four festival organizers initially operated as the “Arbeitskreis Jazzfest”, later as a civil society, before the Jazzfest Gronau was formally transferred to the newly founded Kulturbüro Gronau GmbH in 2004. The programmatic spectrum has expanded immensely since it was founded and continues to present numerous stylistic varieties of jazz up to the present day.
The Jazzfest Gronau is currently largely financed by local and regional sponsors and enjoys a steadily growing audience. The annual number of visitors fluctuates between 12,000 and 18,000 visitors including the open-air events. The proportion of foreign visitors is now around 65%.
The colorful and artistically valuable design of the respective festival posters, for which Andrè Liebscher was responsible from the start, can be considered a unique selling point and characteristic of the Gronau Jazz Festival .
In 2013 the Jazzfest Gronau celebrated its 25th anniversary with numerous prominent artists.
