Raphael Wressnig
Raphael Wressnig (born October 14, 1979 in Graz ) is an Austrian organist and composer specializing in jazz and blues .
Live and act
Raphael Wressnig attended the musical branch at the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Bad Radkersburg . At the age of 16 he developed various blues and jazz styles with piano and organ, while his playing and expression was influenced by Hammond organists such as Jimmy Smith , Jack McDuff , Jimmy McGriff , Groove Holmes and Hank Marr . But modern interpreters like John Medeski and Larry Goldings , right up to rock, soul and gospel organists like Billy Preston shaped his style.
In 2002 the organist recorded his debut album Manic Organic with his “Organic Trio” . His four-year collaboration with the Austrian guitarist and songwriter Oliver Mally resulted in five albums and one DVD. Another stage partnership was established with the blues singer and guitarist Larry Garner . As a member of his band, Raphael Wressnig goes on concert tours around the world. In 2013, for example, he appeared at festivals in Germany, Estonia, France, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Switzerland, Slovakia and Hungary and in 2014 was seen at the 12th Dubai Jazz Festival in the Dubai Media City Amphitheater .
There were albums under his own name as well as tours and concerts with "Raphael Wressnig & The Soul Gift Band". With the Soul Gift Band he was seen at the Jazzfest Gronau in 2014 , in mid-January 2015 in a double concert with the Al Cook Trio in the large broadcasting hall of the ORF and at the Fernwärme Open Air of the Jazz Festival Vienna .
In the meantime, additional tours took place with Louisiana Red , Phil Guy, Sugar Blue, James Armstrong, Tad Robinson, John Mooney, Steve James, Johnny Vidacovich , Sharrie Williams, Doug McLeod, Horacio "El Negro" Hernández , Craig Handy , Jim Mullen , Pete York , Harry Sokal and Enrico Crivellaro, as well as jam sessions with Los Lobos , Tony Monaco, Billy Paul, Sonny Rhodes, The Paladines and Ronnie Brooks.
Wressnig was nominated for Best Organ Player 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 in the Downbeat Critics Poll of the US jazz and blues magazine Down Beat . In January 2014 Raphael Wressnig played his album Soul Gumbo with Stanton Moore, Craig Handy, Alex Schultz, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, George Porter Jr. , Tad Robinson, Larry Garner, Jon Cleary, Nigel Hall, Eric Bloom in music Shed Studios in New Orleans .
Raphael Wressnig recorded their latest album "Chicken Burrito" with legendary drummer James Gadson (103rd Watt Street Band, Charles Wright, Bill Withers, Paul McCartney, D'Angelo, Eddie Harris and many others) and guitarist Alex Schultz in Los Angeles.

He was nominated for the Hans Koller Prize 2003 - "Newcomer of the Year" and the French Blues Trophees - "Best Organ / Piano Player - Europe", and also for the Downbeat Critics' Poll in the "Best Organ Player" category.
