Hans Michael Gottfried Müller-Steinhagen (born February 22, 1954 in Karlsruhe ) is a German mechanical engineer and former rector of the Technical University of Dresden .
Life
Hans Müller-Steinhagen spent his childhood and youth in Karlsruhe , where he attended the Markgrafen-Gymnasium . After completing his military service, he began studying mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe , which he completed in 1980 with a degree in engineering . He then got a job there as a research assistant and received his doctorate in process engineering in 1984 . From 1984 to 1985, Müller-Steinhagen conducted research at the University of British Columbia (Canada) with a grant from the German Research Foundation . From 1986 to 1993 he was Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Auckland (New Zealand). After completing a second doctorate (1993 Doctor of Engineering at the University of Auckland), Müller-Steinhagen worked until 2000 as a professor and institute director at the Institute for Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Surrey (England). In the meantime , he completed his habilitation in 1999 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . From 2000 to 2010, Müller-Steinhagen was director of the Institute for Technical Thermodynamics at the German Aerospace Center and the Institute for Thermodynamics and Thermal Technology at the University of Stuttgart . He is a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) .
After Müller-Steinhagen prevailed over two competitors in the election as rector of the TU Dresden, he held this office from August 18, 2010. On May 13, 2015, he was elected for a second term.
