Hans Müller (born May 24, 1922 - August 23, 2002 ) was a German soccer player. The offensive player completed a total of 213 league games at Fortuna Düsseldorf in the then first-class football Oberliga West from 1947 to 1957, in which he scored 101 goals. This makes Müller the club's internal top division record scorer for Fortuna.

Life

"Hänschen" Müller came from Alemannia Mariadorf from the Aachen district class to Fortuna Düsseldorf at Flinger Broich for the 1946/47 season. Fortunas won the championship in the Berg-Mark district tied ahead of TSG Vohwinkel 80. The subsequent final round of the Niederrhein Association Championship ended Düsseldorf and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen tied with 5: 1 points each. On June 7, 1947, the Red-Whites from Oberhausen prevailed 3-1 in the playoff in Hamborn, but Fortuna had also qualified with 2nd place for the Oberliga West, which started in 1947/48. From the beginning, the newcomer from Mariadorf was a reinforcement for the Fortunen, first as a lively right winger and later as a tireless creator in midfield, who also distinguished himself with an impressive accuracy.

In the debut year of Oberliga West, 1947/48, Müller ran alongside teammates such as Kurt Borkenhagen , Hans Heibach , Paul Janes , Matthias Mauritz , Paul Mehl and Felix Zwolanowski under coach Georg Hochgesang in 20 games in a 13-man relay and scored including ten goals. Fortuna took 7th place. After the end of the second league year, 1948/49 , a relegation round between the table eleventh to thirteenth of the Oberliga West, as well as the second and third of the Westphalia Championship, Lower Rhine Championship and Rhine District Championship due to the planned increase in the Oberliga for the season 1949/50 from 13 out of 16 clubs. In Group 1, the Düsseldorf Fortuna (11th Oberliga) had to do with Prussia Dellbrück (3rd Rhine District Championship) and SpVgg Herten (2nd Westphalia Championship). With 1: 3 points Düsseldorf took the disappointing 3rd place and was relegated to the 2nd division West. In the league, Müller scored six goals in just 14 appearances due to injury.

Ironically in the first year under contract player conditions in the area of the WFV, 1949/50, the Fortuna had to compete in the second division; Local rivals Turu Düsseldorf also belonged to Group 1 of the 2nd League West. In the battle for the championship, Rheydter SV prevailed with a two-point lead, but the team around player- coach Paul Janes immediately returned to the Oberliga West with the runner-up . Müller had played all 30 league games and scored 12 goals. The league returner finished in 1950/51 with 49:35 goals and 31:29 points in 5th place; the enthusiastic and accurate Müller scored 20 hits. He was third behind Hans Kleina (25 goals) from champions FC Schalke 04 (69:36 goals) and Dortmund's Josef Linneweber (21 goals) in the West's top scorers. The convincing goalkeeping performance of the newcomer Toni Turek had also played a major role in the good performance in this round. In the following year, 1951/52, the performance curve of the Fortuna fell rapidly, with the result of 12th place one could not be satisfied. The basic tactical formula of coach Janes, according to Matthias Mauritz, with "guys, get out and fight", had probably worn out despite its simple clarity and had almost no effect. Fortuna's record international player was replaced by Heinz Körner in November 1951 . Müller scored 10 goals in 28 games. At the side of the Gramminger twins Karl and Martin, "Hänschen" Müller scored 21 goals in 28 league games in 1952/53. With that he finished third in the list of goalscorers in the west behind Hans Schäfer (26 goals) from runner-up 1. FC Köln (86:42 goals) and Karl Hetzel (25 goals) from Meidericher SV.

From the 1953/54 world championship round, Kuno Klötzer took over the position of coach at Fortuna. In the first three rounds of Klötzer, veteran Müller was still one of the regulars and underpinned this with 82 league appearances in which he scored 32 goals. In his eleventh round at Fortuna Düsseldorf, 1956/57, the 34-year-old midfielder retired from the Oberliga West with eleven league appearances and two goals. Müller has played 213 association games for Düsseldorf in nine league rounds and scored 101 goals; plus the initial round in 1946/47 in the Berg-Mark district and the runner-up championship round in 1949/50 in the 2nd League West with 30 appearances and 12 goals.

But that was not enough: From the 1957/58 season, there were four rounds with 107 league appearances and 39 goals at VfL Benrath in the 2nd League West under coach Karl Hohmann and teammate Herbert Jäger .
