Hans Martin (born January 26, 1916 in Erlenbach near Marktheidenfeld ; † November 27, 2007 in Würzburg ) was a German composer , organist , choir director and teacher.

life and work

He received an education in Würzburg at the organ and the piano and in music theory . During his high school days he was already active as an organist in the Kilianeum in Miltenberg and Würzburg and from 1935 until the outbreak of war at the Würzburg Court Church .

From 1935 onwards, Hans Martin first studied philosophy at the University of Würzburg . Then, after an involuntary interruption due to the labor service, at the college for teacher training , which he graduated in 1938 with the first teaching examination. After a few months as a junior teacher, he was called up for military service, which went over to military service in 1939. After being wounded in 1944 in Russia and the subsequent captivity in Atkarsk he returned in 1945 to Germany. It was not until 1947 that he was able to resume teaching in his Franconian homeland - first in Helmstadt, then in Ebern and finally in Würzburg.

In Soviet captivity he wrote, among other things, the Atkarsk Christmas Cantata , which was premiered by the prisoner's choir in Atkarsk under his direction, as well as numerous songs.
