Hans Meng

Hans Meng (born February 11, 1884 in Chur , † March 10, 1976 in Celerina / Schlarigna , reformed , resident in St. Peter ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP / SP ).

Life

Hans Meng was born on February 11, 1884 in Chur as the son of the servant and emigrant to the USA Johann Meng and Ursula nee Meuli. After graduating from the canton school in Chur, he was initially employed as a post office clerk in Chur and Basel from 1901 to 1918 . In addition, he acted as head of the postal service in St. Moritz . As a result, Hans Meng worked as a postman in Malans until 1921 , then in his own position in Celerina / Schlarigna until his retirement in 1949.

Hans Meng was married to Georgine, the daughter of the Chur teacher Richard Domeni. He died on March 10, 1976, one month after he had turned 92 in Celerina / Schlarigna.

Political career

The political career of Hans Meng, a member of the Liberal Party, began in 1917 with his election to the Grisons Grand Council , in which he represented the Upper Engadin district and of which he was a member until 1919. In 1918 he joined the Social Democratic Party in connection with the Graubünden tax bill, which he rejected as a representative of the fixed salaries. In 1919 he spoke out against his party joining the 3rd International . In the same year, Meng was surprisingly elected to the National Council as the first Graubünden Social Democrat before he decided to remain in his profession in 1922 after the ban on the occupation of federal officials and announced that he would withdraw from party politics.

After that, Hans Meng was still a councilor in Celerina / Schlarigna.
