Hans Mengel (born February 6, 1917 in Cologne , † March 8, 1941 ) was a German football player . The outside runner from TuRU Düsseldorf played his only international match for the senior national team on March 20, 1938 in Nuremberg in a 1-1 draw against the Hungarian national team .

Career

society

Mengel belonged to the blue-whites of TuRU Düsseldorf and played from 1935 to 1941 in the Gauliga Niederrhein , one of the 16 Gauligen at the time of National Socialism as the uniform top division in the German Empire . He was a travel agent by profession.

Started with his club as a newcomer in this league, this could be held until 1941. Fifth place in the 1936/36 season was the best placement he achieved with the team alongside other players such as Helmut Albrecht and Walter Graf - both winners of the Reichsbund Cup 1936/37 with the Lower Rhine - in the Gauliga Niederrhein . He did not experience the descent - together with Fortuna Düsseldorf - at the end of the 1941/42 season in the district league , as he was called up for military service and fell on the Eastern Front in March 1941 in World War II .

National team

He played his only international match for the senior national team on March 20, 1938 in Nuremberg , three months before the World Cup in France, in a 1-1 draw against the Hungarian national team . The 21-year-old debutant represented Andreas Kupfer and mostly had to deal with the super technician Gyula Zsengellér in the duels . Together with Albin Kitzinger and Ludwig Goldbrunner , he formed the German runner row as the left wing runner in the team of Reich trainer Sepp Herberger . Herberger had scheduled a double country match day and had a B-Elf play against Luxembourg in Wuppertal. In the 2: 1 there, Walter Berg , Wilhelm Sold and Erwin Schädler competed in the runner row. The strong competition in the run was still largely shaped by the two members of the Breslau-Elf , Kupfer and Rudolf Gellesch .

The young player from Düsseldorf did not make it into the World Cup squad for the tournament in France, but he took part in the ranks of the Lower Rhine district selection in July 1938 at the German Gymnastics and Sports Festival 1938 in the games against Baden (3: 4 ) and Bavaria (4: 5), as well as in the competition for the Reichsbund Cup 1938/39 in December 1938 against Südwest (7: 0) and in January 1939 against Bavaria (1: 3).
