Hans Michel Schletterer
Hans Michel Schletterer , also Hans Michael Schletterer (born May 29, 1824 in Ansbach , † June 4, 1893 in Augsburg ) was a German musician and music critic .
Life
He studied first with Louis Spohr in Kassel and later with Ferdinand David and Ernst Friedrich Richter in Leipzig . In 1847 Schletterer became music director in Zweibrücken , in 1854 music director of the university in Heidelberg , in 1858 conductor of the Protestant church in Augsburg and in 1866 director of the music school in the same position. With the founding of the Oratorienverein Augsburg in 1866, which he directed until 1893 and with which he organized well over 100 concerts, in which he also performed many classical instrumental works with the city orchestra, he made a major contribution to the development of musical life in Augsburg and dominated it it over 20 years. His total rejection of the new musical development after Wagner and the neglect of the works of younger composers earned him increasing, sometimes malicious criticism, so that in 1893, completely bitter, he resigned the management of the oratorio association and died soon afterwards.
Schletterer composed cantatas, operettas, choral songs and psalms set to music. His music theory treatises, for which he was awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy in Tübingen in 1878, were also important .
Schletterer's daughter Anna (1862-1919) became an opera singer (soprano / mezzo-soprano).
