Hans Moritz (theologian)

Hans Moritz (born May 15, 1926 in Gautzsch ; † July 21, 2017 ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian , university professor for the sociology of religion , director of the theology section at KMU Leipzig .

Life

Moritz began his professional career in 1946 as a new teacher in a school in Markkleeberg before studying Protestant theology at the University of Leipzig . He then worked on a thesis on the theology of Paul Tillich and was following successful defense of a doctorate in theology doctorate . In 1961 he was appointed director of the Institute for the Sociology of Religion. In the next few years he qualified as a professor and was appointed professor for Protestant theology in 1965 and was director of the theology section at Karl Marx University from 1968. His theological work related primarily to the topic of faith and its forms in view of the social conditions under which believers live. In 1991 Moritz retired .

In 1946 Moritz joined the GDR CDU , to whose leadership he later belonged as a member of the main board. He also worked in the Free German Youth (FDJ) and became a member of the FDJ Central Council. He also worked in the GDR Peace Council .

From 1959 he was an unofficial employee of the Ministry for State Security under the code name "Martin" .

Moritz was a member of the Christian Peace Conference (CFK) and participant in the 1st and 2nd All-Christian Peace Meetings in Prague in 1961 and 1964, respectively.
