Gautzsch is a district of the city of Markkleeberg in the district of Leipzig , bordering the city of Leipzig to the south . After the town of Markkleeberg was founded in 1934, the place was usually only referred to as Markkleeberg-West.

history

Martin Luther Church

Gautzsch was first mentioned around 961. The name suggests an Old Sorbian origin. Closely related is the existence of the neighboring village of Oetzsch , which today also belongs to Markkleeberg . Gautzsch had several owners, the most powerful being those of Pflugk, Gehofen and Dieskau. In 1713 the property was bought by the Leipzig merchant and councilor Wolfgang Jöcher. He had the manor house, village and church largely rebuilt.

Until 1856, Gautzsch was part of the electoral or royal Saxon district office of Leipzig . From 1856 the place belonged to the court office Leipzig II and from 1875 to the administrative authority Leipzig . In 1861 Gut Gautzsch was acquired by the Kees family from Zöbigker, who redesigned it in the neo-baroque style. The Kees'sche Park next to the Martin Luther Church, in which the Adlertor is also located, dates from this time . At the turn of the century, larger industrial companies emerged in Gautzsch, including a. the Riquet chocolate factory, and a villa colony . A new city center was planned on the Eulenberg. In the 19th century, Gut Lauer and the Cospuden settlement also belonged to Gautzsch . Gut Lauer came to Knauthain in 1920 and with this in 1936 to the city of Leipzig.

On January 1, 1934, the larger Gautzsch was combined with Oetzsch-Markkleeberg to form the town of Markkleeberg. Due to the Slavic origin of the name of the two places, preference was given to the much smaller Markkleeberg. In the course of this, Gautzsch became “Markkleeberg-West”. With Gautzsch, the settlement of Cospuden belonging to the place was also incorporated into Markkleeberg. Gut Lauer and Cospuden were dredged over by the Cospuden opencast mine in the 1970s / 80s as a result of the lignite mining in the region , the resulting Cospudener See and the former gravel pit Waldsee Lauer keep their names.
