Hans Pauli Olsen (born August 24, 1957 in Tórshavn ) is a Faroese sculptor . He lives and works in Copenhagen and is therefore also known as a Danish sculptor.

Life

Hans Pauli is the son of the ship carpenter Esmar Olsen and his wife Ebba, née Joensen. He has been married to the artist Hjørdis Haack since 1985.

Olsen completed his artistic training from 1976–78 at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek and the Royal Danish Academy of Art with Professors Willy Ørskov and Bjørn Nørgaard from 1979–87.

Hans Pauli Olsen mostly uses classical materials such as granite , plaster , bronze and as a sculptor has developed a special figurative and surrealistic form of expression.

His partly monumental works can be seen in the Faroe Islands and Denmark. The sculptures of the two Viking chiefs Tróndur í Gøtu and Sigmundur Brestisson are currently in the Faroe Islands . Some of the Danish National Bank's commemorative coins also come from him.
