Bjørn Nørgaard
Bjørn Nørgaard (born May 21, 1947 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish sculptor and performance artist .
life and work
Nørgaard began his artistic career by studying at the “School for Experimental Art” in Copenhagen, which he graduated in 1964. In the late 1960s he took on various happenings in part, as the kvindelige Kristus (The female Christ) in 1966 and Hesteofringen (The horse sacrifice) in 1970. In 1966 he participated alongside Henning Christiansen in the action "MANRESA" (Homage Schmela ) by Joseph Beuys , which took place on December 15th in the Schmela Gallery in Düsseldorf.
After Nørgaard experimented with graphics, ceramics and the production of films in the 1960s, he was interested in sculpture since the 1970s. His exhibitions took place not only in Denmark or the Scandinavian countries, but also in Paris, Hamburg, New York, Sydney, Istanbul, etc. The leitmotif of his art is transformation.
From 1985 to 1994 he was a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts . He is also the holder of the European Cross of Honor "Pro Arte" . A sculpture by Nørgaard is in the education center of the Federal Employment Agency in Münster , another at the Germaniahafen in Kiel .
