Hans Pramer
Hans Pramer ( October 10, 1882 in St. Veit im Mühlkreis - May 29, 1943 in Landsberg am Lech ) was an Austrian railroad worker and resistance fighter against National Socialism . He was convicted of high treason and died in Landsberg prison .
Life
Pramer was a railroad worker. At a young age he joined the Social Democratic Workers' Party and was an active member of the section in the Gastein Valley. He moved to Werfen and became a shop steward for the Werfen local organization in 1917. He then went to Hallein , where he was for many years an SP functionary in the local and district organization, a member of the Republican Protection Association and until 1934 chairman of the railway workers' union in the Hallein district . After the establishment of the totalitarian corporate state and the prohibition of the Labor Party, Pramer joined the then also illegal trade union movement and the Revolutionary Socialists . He continued his resistance activity after the annexation of Austria . On February 22, 1942, he was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison for high treason by the People's Court in Berlin. He was sent to Landsberg Prison in Upper Bavaria , where he was killed on May 29, 1943.
Commemoration
In April 1945 the city of Hallein named Kornsteinplatz after Hans Pramer. However, as the historical name of the square was preserved in the parlance of the population, the municipality decided in 1967 to rename Kornsteinplatz and instead dedicated the station forecourt of Hallein to the resistance fighter.
On July 3, 2014, the Cologne artist Gunter Demnig laid a stumbling block with the following inscription in front of Pramer's last freely chosen residence, the house at Wiestal-Landesstrasse 19 in Hallein :
