Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir (German transcription Lilja Dögg Alfredsdottir , born October 4, 1973 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic economist and politician ( Progress Party ). The foreign trade expert was Icelandic Foreign Minister in the cabinet of Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson and is the party's deputy chairwoman. Since November 30, 2017, she has been Minister of Education and Culture in the Katrín Jakobsdóttir cabinet .

Life

Lilja Dögg holds a Master of International Affairs in International Economic Policy from Columbia University . She worked in various functions for the Icelandic Central Bank and was economic policy advisor to former Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson .

In April 2016, Lilja Dögg, who at that time was not a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing , was appointed Foreign Minister in the cabinet of Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson. In October 2016, she was elected deputy chairman of the Progress Party.

In the parliamentary elections on October 29, 2016 , Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir was elected to the Althing. The Progress Party was not involved in Bjarni Benediktsson's ruling coalition , which was set up on January 11, 2017, which means that Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir was no longer a member of the government. Her successor as Foreign Minister is Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson from the Independence Party . She is Minister for Education and Culture in the coalition of the Left-Green Movement , the Independence Party and the Progress Party, which was formed after the early parliamentary elections in 2017 .
