Valgerður Sverrisdóttir

Valgerður Sverrisdóttir (born March 23, 1950 on the farm Lómatjörn in the municipality of Grýtubakki ) is an Icelandic politician ( Progress Party ).

Life

Valgerður was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing from 1987 to 2009 , initially as a representative of the former constituency of Norðurland eystra , and since 2003 for the North-Eastern constituency . From 1999 to 2006 she was Minister for Industry and Trade, from 2004 to 2005 also Minister for Nordic Cooperation, and from June 15, 2006 to May 24, 2007, Foreign Minister .

From 2008 to 2009 Valgerður Sverrisdóttir was the leader of the Progress Party. She is the bearer of the Icelandic Order of Falcons ( Stórriddarakross , Commander ), which was awarded to her on January 1, 2005.
