Hans Rosenfeld

Hans Rosenfeld (born May 6, 1926 in Schopfloch , Middle Franconia ; † January 9, 2015 in New York City ) was a German- born Jew who escaped the Holocaust by emigrating early enough . Since 1996 he has been coming regularly from New York to Middle Franconia to give lectures on international understanding .

Life

Hans Rosenfeld was born on May 6, 1926 as the son of the knitwear manufacturer Hermann and Anni (née Nussbaum) Rosenfeld in Schopfloch. In 1934, due to increasing anti-Semitism , he moved with his family to Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz . However, as the situation did not improve at all and Hans Rosenfeld continued to have problems with non-Jewish schoolmates at school, the family finally emigrated to Argentina in 1937 by ship . Here, after the Second World War , Hans Rosenfeld began to study law and industrial engineering. Due to the impending there dictatorship under Juan Perón but he moved in the 1950s his residence to New York, where he worked until 1972, first in a recycling - Company worked and from 1972 until Finally, in 1995 launched a travel agency. In total, Hans Rosenfeld was married four times. From his first marriage he had a daughter who is now a mother of three and grandmother of two . Hans Rosenfeld died on January 9, 2015 at the age of 88 as a result of a serious illness in New York.

Merits

Until the end, Hans Rosenfeld attached great importance to keeping the memory of the Jewish community alive: for this he came to Central Franconia twice a year since 1996 and gave lectures against hatred and intolerance and on international understanding and about his in various places - especially at schools own family history.
