Hans Schliack

Hans Johann Schliack (born October 26, 1919 in Cottbus ; † December 19, 2008 in Hanover ) was a German doctor and university professor.

Life

Schliack was born in Cottbus in 1919 as the son of the resident internist Carl Schliack.

After graduating from high school, he studied medicine in Jena from 1942 to 1944 . After interruption by the military service he completed his studies in 1947 in Tübingen , where he also with the work over metastases in the opposite armpit for breast carcinoma in pathology was awarded his doctorate. First he worked as an assistant in the medical clinic at the Lübeck Municipal Clinic before he moved to the University Clinic for Neurology and Psychiatry in Bonn as an assistant doctor. After completing his specialist training, he returned to Lübeck as a senior physician, before taking over the management of the neurosurgical-neurological polyclinic at the University Hospital of Berlin in 1957 . In 1959 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the clinical syndromes of the spinal nerves . In 1969 Schliack succeeded in separating the neurology department from the neurosurgery-neurology department after long, difficult battles and establishing it as an independent department without neurosurgery or psychiatry in the newly founded Steglitz University Hospital . In 1972 he took over the first chair for neurology in Berlin. In 1977, Schliack moved to Hanover Medical School , where he held the chair of neurology until his retirement in 1985.

Schliack died on December 19, 2008 after a long illness in Hanover.

Act

Schliack researched and published in particular on the peripheral nervous system . He founded the journal Current Neurology and was its editor for a long time.
