Hans Schmidinger (sculptor)

Hans Schmidinger (born November 18, 1912 in Linz , † February 7, 1994 in Leonding ) was an Austrian sculptor , painter and restorer.

Live and act

After training as a painter in Linz, Schmidinger traveled to various cities in Austria and worked on the restoration of churches. From 1930 he studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule Linz under Paul Ikrath and Schückl. From 1933 to 1937 he was an assistant at the school.

In 1930 Schmidinger had his first exhibition in Ried im Innkreis , where he also had a studio. From 1934 he was a freelance painter and sculptor; his studio was now in the Linz Magazingasse. He was also a graphic designer for the daily mail . During the Second World War he was in military service at the front, where he was wounded. After 1945 he was freelance again. He later studied sculpture under Fritz Wotruba at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . In 1957 he opened the 12er-Turm in Leonding as an exhibition space in the Künstlerklause .
