Hans Steiner (born January 7, 1884 in Schwyz ; † September 8, 1964 there , entitled to live in Ingenbohl ) was a Swiss federal judge , politician (KVP) and lawyer .

biography

After attending grammar schools in Feldkirch and Schwyz, Hans Steiner, son of the architect Clemens Steiner and the Magdalena née Hediger, studied law at the universities of Zurich , Berlin and Freiburg , which he obtained in Zurich in 1909 with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed. As a result, Steiner completed his training in Roman Law in Freiburg , before moving to Zurich for this subject in 1913 habilitated . There he worked from 1914 as a private lecturer and finally from 1918 to 1920 asAssociate Professor . Steiner also worked as a lawyer in Schwyz from 1911 to 1924 .

At the same time, Hans Steiner - he was a member of the Catholic Conservatives - started a political career. From 1918 to 1922 he was a member of the municipal council and president of the Schwyz orphanage office. At the cantonal level, he represented his party in the Schwyz Cantonal Council from 1920 to 1925 . At the federal level, he sat on the National Council for the canton from 1919 to 1924 . There, Hans Steiner gave an important speech as an opponent of the 1921 zone agreement. In 1924 Steiner's election as federal judge took place. He filled this office until 1951, from 1943 to 1944 as President.

Hans Steiner - he married Dora, the daughter of bank administrator Theodor Schuler - in 1913 - died on September 8, 1964, four months before he was 81 years old in Schwyz. He is the father of the first President of the Swiss National Council, Elisabeth Blunschy .
