Hans Stock (actor)

Hans Stock (born March 29, 1867 in Dresden , † 1947 in Germany ) was a German actor .

Life

Stock began his stage career on January 7th, 1887 at the court theater in Dessau . Via Chemnitz (1888), Elberfeld (1889) and Oldenburg (1890) he came to the Hoftheater von Altenburg , where he stayed for five years (1891–96). Then Stock returned to Chemnitz and performed in Munich before he came to Berlin in 1898 to fulfill an obligation at the Lessing Theater. Guest tours have also taken him abroad, to London and Moscow .

Stock's specialty at a young age was that of the character lover, mostly in modern, contemporary pieces. Later, after the First World War, the man from Dresden grew into the role of character actor, which he filled out at theaters in the capital such as the Trianon Theater, the Berlin Theater, the New Theater, the Komödienhaus and the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm .

Hans Stock appeared in front of the camera even before the First World War. He was mainly seen in supporting roles, less often in leading roles (such as in Joe May's The Veiled Image of Groß-Kleindorf ). The Dresdner was preferred in the field of signed gentlemen and dignitaries, as a representative of the upper class. He also embodied a count (in Max Mack's Where is Coletti? ) As a jeweler (in Doktor Klaus ), a ministerial director (in Der Herr Landrat ) as well as a mayor (in Schwarzwaldkinder ), a professor (in Poor little Pierrot ) and a millionaire (in The veiled picture of Groß-Kleindorf ). He was less often occupied as a representative of simple people - as an ordinary worker, clerk or servant (like his locksmith in postcard model or the servant in Lohengrin's marriage ). Stock's big patron on screen was the producer and director Heinrich Bolten-Baeckers , who regularly cast Stock.

Hans Stock was one of the first actors in Germany who could use his voice in front of the camera. In October 1928 he stood in front of the camera in the Tobis-Tempelhof studio and played the great patron, patron and friend of the composer Franz Schubert , Hofrat Joseph von Spaun , in the twelve-minute short feature film Dein ist mein Herz (first performance in April 1929) . Almost five years later, Stock early paid his respects to the new rulers and took on the role of an old farmer in the Nazi propaganda short film Blood and Soil , a commissioned production by the staff office of the Reichsbauernführer . The 70-year-old gave his farewell performance for the film as Karin Hardt's father in the Heinz Rühmann fun game The man who can't say 'no' .

After that, the elderly artist concentrated on working on Berlin's theaters until all German theaters were closed in late summer 1944 (including the theater on Behrenstrasse and, most recently, the theater on Nollendorfplatz).
