The Dead Awake is a German detective film from 1915 in the Stuart Webbs film series .

action

This film from the Webbs series is characterized by the fact that it combines strong horror elements more than any other productions - in keeping with the Gothic tradition , as you can find it in contemporary literature and later in other films. In addition, this time, more than ever, Webbs emphasizes his own characteristics, which take on almost parodic traits, and sometimes acts as a blasé dandy, sometimes as a shrewd tactician and then again as a nonchalant disguise artist who knows how to perfectly adapt to any situation.

In this tricky case, Webbs is called in to solve a series of alleged suicides. The case is very opaque - nothing is what it seems at first glance. Are the suicides really dead at all? Webbs first suspects an Indian servant of a nobleman who, thanks to Stuart's research, turns out to be innocent. The other exotic characters that appear in the story also all seem rather opaque and devious, as if they were in league with evil. In a dark vault there is finally a showdown: The petrified-looking dead, lined up like a wax museum, suddenly awaken to new life in front of their alleged murderer!
