The Amateur is a German detective film comedy from 1916 in the Stuart Webbs film series .

action

Unlike the other Stuart Webbs crime novels, this story is designed as a comedy. This time, Webbs is not chasing a criminal, but instead makes a bet. Clubmate GM Parker of the R. A Club bets Stuart for 20,000 that he could track him down in town within 24 hours, no matter where Webbs is hiding.

Webbs got a minute's head start and the hunt could begin. But unlike his friend Parker, Webbs is not an amateur and knows how to fool his clubmates with his various masquerades. The detective that Parker brought in to crack up on Webb's reinforcements is not really helpful either. Of course, Stuart Webbs wins the bet.

Production notes

The amateur is the ninth film in this series and was shot in the Stuart Webbs film studio in Berlin-Weißensee . After passing the censorship in April 1916, he was banned from youth. An exact premiere date in Germany, where it ran in the marble house , cannot be determined. In Austria-Hungary (Vienna), Der Amateur ran under the slightly different title Der Amatör on September 15, 1916 with a length of four acts at around 1440 meters, which corresponds to a playing time of a good 70 minutes. For Germany, a length of 1305 meters (approx. 64 minutes) is given.
