The Letter Opener is a German detective film from 1916 in the Stuart Webbs film series .
action
A bank teller is found murdered - stabbed with a letter opener. An amount of 300,000 kroner was robbed. The bank director Walter Neels is the first suspect to be arrested. Thereupon his bride hires Marie Helgen Webbs to prove the innocence of her fiancé. Webbs is struggling to solve the tricky case, which also requires the help of the police. In the end, the general manager turns out to be the real culprit, he and his helpers are arrested.

The letter opener is the eighth film in this series and was shot in the spring of 1916 in the Stuart Webbs film studio in Berlin-Weißensee . After passing the censorship, he was banned from youth. When it was re-censored in 1921, the four-act film was 1,380 meters long. The German premiere took place on May 12, 1916 in the Marmorhaus . In Austria-Hungary (Vienna), The Letter Opener started running on April 7, 1916.
