The Senatorial Election is a German detective film from 1916 in the Stuart Webbs film series .

action

Two men, Hauston Briarfield and Jack Neville, are in fierce competition for the election of a vacant senatorial position. Briarfield is the stepbrother of Neville's fiancée, Oliva. Once he had withheld a will and cheated the singer of her inheritance. Then a third man comes into play.

It's a sinister existence called Sprague. This knows of Briarfield's embezzlement and blackmailed him with it. If Briarfield did not give him the entire legacy, he would see to it that it all comes out and he could then bury all his political ambitions. A case for Stuart Webbs: he exposes both villains, saves Oliva's inheritance and ensures that Briarfield resigns from the senatorial office in favor of Neville.

Production notes

The Senatorial Election is the 14th film in this series and was shot in the Stuart Webbs Film Atelier in Berlin-Weißensee . After passing the censorship in December 1916, it was banned from young people and premiered the following month in the Marble House in Berlin. In Austria-Hungary (Vienna) the senatorial election started on August 31, 1917 as a four-act act with a length of four acts at about 1450 meters.
