Launen des Glücks is a German detective film from 1918 in the Stuart Webbs film series . The title role is played by Ernst Reicher , who also directed and acted as producer.
action
Stuart Webbs joined a hunting party when doctor Dr. Grabert is called to the squire Warrenthin. His housekeeper, Mrs. Althoff, has just passed away completely unexpectedly. The examinations reveal that traces of arsenic were found on the corpse . Webbs and the bystanders conclude that it must be a murder case. A suspect is quickly found in Ms. Althoff's foster son.
In fact, it turns out that the housekeeper died of natural causes and that the arsenic got into her body just as naturally through food intake. Webbs solves another case en passant, which was apparently staged as a result of the suspected crime against the dead: a burglary. The landowner Warrenthin had done the same to make the disappearance of a lottery ticket by Mrs. Althoff credible. Rather, he wanted to put it in his own pocket.
