action

The detective Stuart Webbs clears up the disappearance of diamond jewelry .

background

It was shot in the Stuart Webbs film studio in Berlin-Weißensee . It was produced by the Stuart Webbs-Film Company Reicher und Reicher (Berlin). According to the film producer Erich Pommer , the screenplay for "The Whip" was written by Fritz Lang . Since there is no other information about the scriptwriter , it must be considered uncertain whether the script actually comes from Lang. The film, which is considered lost, has a length of four or five acts at 1,560 meters. This corresponds to a length of approx. 85 minutes. The Berlin police issued a youth ban (No. 40112), and the Munich police demanded that it not be advertised as a detective film (No. 23152, 23153, 23154, 23155). On June 15, 1921, the Reich Film Censorship in Berlin imposed a youth ban (No. 3454). The premiere took place in December 1916 in the Berlin marble house. From 1921 Richard Kühn (Berlin) took over the film distribution.
